February 26th - March 3rd
Breakfast Foods and Communications
Here is what we're working on this week:
INVENTORY: Count the cleaning supplies in your home, and record the amount on your Home Storage inventory worksheet. Unscented bleach is a must have in an emergency to help you purify your water. Straighten and dust just those shelves with cleaning products. Be careful to store dangerous supplies out of the reach of children.
EMERGENCY FUND: Put aside the weekly financial reserve amount you decided on with your spouse. Consider $2.00 per week per family member as a place to start.
WATER SUPPLY (2-week supply): Continue to buy or fill water if needed. Work towards 14 gallons per person. It's $2.50 per 24 ct. case at Winegars.
FOOD STORAGE (3-month supply): Powdered Eggs 1/4 #10 can per person. Adjust amount for smaller children if you wish. I keep a backup supply, but not necessarily a year's supply. Emergency Essentials will have it on sale for $14.99 at Utah stores until Wednesday, February 29th. And at Winegars it's 13.99 for an Augason Farms 33 oz can.
NON-FOOD: Mouthwash, 1 bottle per person (optional).
72-HOUR KIT: Detailed Area Map. They are sometimes available from AAA or stores such as Maverick. If you ever have to evacuate and need to find a less traveled route, use your map and conserve the battery on your cell phone GPS.
AUTO KIT: Same item as your 72-Hour Kit.
EQUIPMENT: Free week.
EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS: If you live in Utah, make sure you register for "The Great Utah Shake Out," an emergency drill residents in the state of Utah can participate in on April 17, 2012.
